Gresham Barret, currently serving as US Representative for the Third Congressional District, has announced that he will run for SC Governor in the 2010 election.

Shane Massey, who was elected to Tommy Moore's vacated State Senate seat, has announced that he'll be running for the Third Congressional District US House seat. This seat is currently occupied by Gresham Barrett.

Representative Skipper Perry will not be seeking reelection to the State House after nine years in office. Perry has said that he felt it was time to "move on."

As Barbara Morgan vacates the 2nd Judicial Circuit solicitor's seat this fall, Strom Thurmond Jr. has already said he will run for it. The 2nd Judicial Circuit encompasses Aiken, Barnwell and Bamberg counties.

The Reverend Brendolyn Jenkins, President of the Aiken NAACP, made strong remarks in a statement yesterday regarding the owner of Bullseye Big Chicken. Bruce Pierson, the owner of the restaurant, added a welcome message to the sign outside of his restaurant to welcome Bill Clinton and Barack Obama during their visits to Aiken. The welcome message said, "Welcome Bill Clinton and Obama," with "Obama" placed on the next line of the sign next to "2PC MIXED 1.99."

Governor Sanford begins a tour around our State in Aiken today. Through his tour, he hopes to garner public support for the policies he outlined in his State of the State Address.

Shane Massey has been declared the winner of the Senate District 25 Runoff with more than 60% of the vote. Massey carried all four counties in District 25. Massey is looking forward to the race against Bill Clyburn for the November election, certain he can win.

City of Aiken voters will have a blank space on their November 6 ballots. The space will appear below Mayor Fred Cavanaugh's name to allow voters to write-in their own alternative choice for Mayor of Aiken, if they so choose.

Jesse Jackson will embark on a 5 day tour of South Carolina tomorrow with his Rainbow PUSH Coalition. The tour, titled the Voter Education Tour for Jobs, Peace and Justice, will end on Wednesday the 19th here in Aiken.
